Starting my Fichu

I am using a diagram I found on the web so long ago I can't remember where it came from, but it's so very helpful!:

I have used it before for measurements and scale it really makes a nice shape and size.

I am using the same material as the apron so they can be a matched set and am hand sewing the whole thing like the apron.

I am debating though, whether or not I want to do the ruffled edge. It's a pretty touch and I did cut out the material for it already, just not sure I want to do all the hand work! ;)

  1. Hi Love - the diagram is from "18th Century Embroidery Techniques." It's a great book, if you don't already have it :-)

    1. Thank you so much for the reference on the diagram! I have always wondered about the original source. And I went and looked up the book on Amazon and it is now on its way into my collection, oh where would we be without the interwebs and one day shipping from Amazon! ;)

  2. That diagram is from the book 18th Century Embroidery Techniques, which I got for my birthday earlier this year. :) The scan I first saw on American Duchess's site, and learned that she scanned it from the book.

You can always add the ruffle later; that's what I did with my barred organdy fichu!

    1. Good idea on the ruffle :) i can just focus on finishing the fichu for the challenge and add the ruffle in later. it will give me more period hand work for this upcoming 18Th century event too!
